In photography we have a slightly different set of "elements" or fundamental ideas that we think of when making good photos. We will use the following Fundamentals of Photography:
ASSIGNMENT #1 Fundamentals of Photography Research Assignment:
Click and download the following link for a page of directions for how to search for the different photos with elements and principles.
Make a new folder on your desktop (right click> New folder) & re-name it "FoP RESEARCH"
Find 3 examples of each of these elements- * Mac: (Screen Shot = shift+command+4) * PC: ("Snip" tool = Shift+Windows+s) will need to save from your clipboard
Internet Research: (Add the word "photography" behind each search) Reflection: Reflection is the subject of the photograph Shadow: Shadow is the subject of the photograph Abstraction: Section of something, close-up, sometimes unrecognizable Perspective: Linear: diagonal lines converge to create depth in a picture. Viewpoint: Unusual angles, shots from above, shots from below. Shape/Pattern: One simple shape or repeated shapes are the subjects of the photograph. Value Contrast: Light vs. Dark Texture Contrast: Rough vs. Smooth, at least 2 contrasting textures are evident in the photograph
Rename each image for the desired category. (Ex: "Shadow1, Shadow2, Reflection1, etc...)
Make a contact sheet in BRIDGE with your 21 found pictures. ("Export to PDF" to save)
Name your contact sheet: "FoP Research"
Submit your "RESEARCH" contact sheet on Google Classroom!
How to screen shot on a PC / Dell laptop:
ASSIGNMENT #2 PHOTO SHOOT INFORMATION:
Get the photo shoot sheets and/or Snap a quick picture of the shoot sheets on your phone so you know what the subjects of your pictures will be and how many you need.
Total of 37 new photos!!! (see shoot sheet below for break-down)
Mr. Lightle may have printed copies for you already if you want them on paper.
(((Remember to RE-FORMAT your SD card before you start!!!)))
Create a new folder on your desktop called "Elements Shoot".
Save or upload all your new photos to the new folder on your desktop.
Rename all of your photos according to the category you were shooting for.
Use Bridge, Camera Raw, to edit all of your photos.
Create a contact sheet with all of your original and edited photos. (72 total)
Submit the contact sheet to the proper assignment on Google Classroom for grading.
ASSIGNMENT #4 JOURNAL PAGES FOR EACH OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY Shadows, Reflections, Abstractions, SHAPE/Pattern, Perspective, Value Contrast, & Texture Contrast
- Choose ONE of your own EDITED photos that best represents each element. (7 total)
- Crop each (using the rule of thirds) in Photoshop to 5" x 3.5" x 300ppi & Save them.
- Create a new 9" x 7" blank canvas in Photoshop.
- Insert a creative background on the page. (Remember that it shouldn't be too busy)
- Compose No more than 2 photos per journal page - Write the definition for the photo example on each page.
(Make sure all text is easy to read!!! (Think HIGH CONTRAST) If I can't read it you will lose points.)
- Save each page as a .JPG (or take a screenshot)
- Submit your pages in Google Classroom and print a copy for your folder.
